MDUSD to address charges of misuse of funds, withholding documents, Aug 22

The Mt Diablo Unified School District board has scheduled a special meeting of the oversight committee for the purpose of responding to charges of misuse of funds and withholding documents requested by the committee more than six weeks ago. In light of Sunday’s report in the Contra Costa Times, concerned residents who care about Mt. Diablo schools and complete transparency in spending of funds will want to attend tomorrow’s committee meeting:

What: Special Meeting of the MDUSD Measure C Citizens Bond Oversight Committee
When: Monday, August 22nd at 7:00pm
Location: District Board room located at 1936 Carlotta Drive in Concord

Mt. Diablo Unified School District’s Measure C, approved by voters in 2010, authorized issuance of up to $348,000,000 in general obligation bonds, contingent upon the District’s establishment and cooperation with a citizens bond oversight committee. The District’s bond advisor estimates Measure C ultimately will cost taxpayers up to a staggering $1.87 billion, so it represents big bucks for taxpayers.

This columnist has said what needed saying about the August 22, 2011 citizens bond oversight committee meeting and related actions of MDUSD officials:

It’s time for the words “open, honest, accountable, transparent government” to really mean something for MDUSD and the residents it serves.

Disturbing developments are emerging at the District. The stonewalling, bullying schtick ain’t working. Non-responsive responses to direct, factual questions fool no one.

    What a PR mess:

Plus, District residents are becoming increasingly tired of the smiling Emperor parading around buck nekkid with “where kids come first” tattooed on his hindquarters. There’s growing awareness that the jig is up.

Moreover, parents know that District cannot “furlough days” itself to educational excellence, nor can it survive long-term with enrollment continuing to trend down even as millions in bond interest and unfunded OPEB liability accumulate.

There are just too many bad decisions being made by MDUSD, at the long-term expense of our kids, our community and property values. Who will want to move here with such high debt accruing on residents?

It sounds as though the citizens bond oversight committee members need public support and encouragement, to accomplish their important work.

Attending Monday’s meeting would be a good way to support the committee’s ongoing efforts.
