Amy Worth, Orinda Mayor and her conflict of interest

Amy_WorthA conflict of interest exists with Amy Worth, the mayor or Orinda. On Sunday, October 20, the print edition of the Contra Costa Times reported, in a front page story, that, “Orinda Mayor Amy Worth, whose municipal position was unpaid, received $17,400 as an MTC [Metropolitan Transportation Commission] board member last year.” Guess which tune she dances to. Once in love with Amy

amy-worth-conflict-of-interest-Orinda-MTCRay Bolger, many decades ago, had a hit song called “Once in Love with Amy.” Presumably, the song was not about Amy Worth, the chairperson of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the mayor of Orinda. The MTC is a regional, Bay Area governmental agency that does transportation planning. But Worth, who has been the chairperson of MTC since early this year and mayor or Orinda since late last year, seems to be losing her popularity with Orindans. Good news—maybe—for the Contra Costa GOP (CCRP). It is now accepting applications from potential Republican candidates for the 2010 CD-11 campaign. Only hitch is, you need to bring a really BIG check if you’re going to apply.

Now that we know the Contra Costa GOP (CCRP) is willing to get behind any Republican candidate as long as they are the highest bidder via contributions to Tom Del Beccaro Inc, it’s no surprise to see results of the most recent CCRP FEC filing.

Of the $14,000 the CCRP managed to raise in the most recent reporting period, $10,000 of it came from the Del Arroz family (Jon and Dad).

If Tom Del Beccaro Inc’s cozy yet questionable relationship with CD-10 candidate David Harmer and all the conflict of interest that love fest entails is any example, would anyone care to hazard a guess about whom Tom and his cronies will be touting exclusively in the CD-11 2010 Primary?

Below find e-mails from members of the Contra Costa Republican Central Committee to fellow members regarding the

1) allegations of mismanagement, misconduct, conflict of interest, election code and party bylaw violations currently taking place with the direction of the CCRP chair, Greg Poulos and vice Chair Tom Del Becccaro who is also vice chair of the California GOP.

2) Further discussion calls on members to take action to correct the allegations which no one is denying; to avoid legal and financial penalty, as well as to fulfill legal and fiduciary obligations as sworn office holder of the State of California.

These memoranda follow articles by Ted Hudacko who has gathered complaints from a variety of sources.

BOS set to name Supervisor Piepho as LAFCO alternate despite conflict of interest

Hidden away in the consent calendar for April 1 (Resolution #2008/20), the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors are set to appoint former board chair, Supervisor Mary Piepho (District-3) as the BOS’ alternate representative to LAFCO. LAFCO is a little known yet remarkably powerful agency that determines land use, agency formation, and spheres of municipal influence within Contra Costa County.

The Supervisor’s spouse, David Piepho, who also serves on LAFCO as well as the Discovery Bay CSD, is under fire for possible conflicts of interest from Disco Bay residents. According to the Discovery Bay Press, citizens argue that with two Piephos potentially voting on some LAFCO business, the BOS would have undue influence that would violate the checks and balances the State tried to build into the agency structure.
