CD-10 candidate John Toth

Conservative Republican Doctor John Toth seeks 10th Congressional District seat in special primary election on Sep. 1st.

is a physician with his own general practice in Concord that offers some interesting perspectives on issues important to voters in the district. He is a father of three and has been married for 21 years.

The good doctor says that he will work to preserve our liberties in Congress, and is quick to point out that he is the only Republican to serve in an elected office.

Dr. Toth served as President of two different medical associations in the state, the Bay Area Osteopathic Medical Association and the California Society, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He currently chairs the Mount Diablo Health Care District Board of Directors.

So, who better than Dr. Toth to discuss important health care issues with Halfway to Concord?

“The health care debate has been replete with dishonesty for the sole purpose that once passed it will be irreversible” says Dr. Toth.

When asked to explain the dishonesty factor, Dr. Toth first points to the “disingenuous” notion that we need a public option. He says, “We already have a public option, and it’s called Medicare.”

The doctor argues that Medicare is the cause of our problems. He suggests that it is rarely mentioned because attacking it can lead to grave political fallout. He concluded that, “This is why the new health care legislation will ultimately become irreversible if passed by Congress.”

Health CareThe idea that a public option will save cost, is also rejected by Dr. Toth, “Medicare like all socialistic legislation will result in higher costs, lower quality, reduced availability, and greater government control. It is all too predictable because socialism results in centralized control and bankruptcy every time.”

When asked what we should do, the doctor said, “Since these socialist programs cannot be voted out, our solution is to allow Medicare to follow its natural course of bankruptcy, which might happen in the next few years.”

A return to pre-1965 free market American medical options is what Dr. Toth wants. He says, “We can not have a free market and socialism at the same time, they are mutually exclusive. With all the wasteful programs we have been enduring the costs add up, which makes heath care unaffordable for those who need it the most.”

Technology, according to Dr. Toth, has added to health care costs, but he believes that it has been far less of a factor then what some believe. He suggests that, “inflation has played more of a roll” in rising health care costs for Americans.

Dr. Toth would like to see a restoration of the doctor-patient relationship that has’nt received the attention it deserves when discussing health care reform.

The economy is sick and the doctor’s orders are, “No more bailouts, and No more deficit spending.” He says, “No” to the so-called stimulus package as well, and would have voted against it had he been given the opportunity.

Conservatives, such as Toth do however support some legislation. Take House bill, H.R.1207 which aims to audit the Federal Reserve and help Congress reassert its constitutional authority over the monetary policy. Dr. Toth would support that particular piece of legislation and turns out, he wouldn’t be alone among his colleagues. Every Republicans in the House has signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill along with many Democrats as well.

Economic Crisis
Dr. Toth envisions the economy getting worse if we continue with business as usual and has discussed this topic with some of the influential members on Capitol Hill in recent weeks.

Dr. Toth and Gary Clift both agree that the wars oversees have weakened our national defense. Both Republicans were not shy about expressing their non-interventionist views on this subject.

While Clift wants to bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan and supports a humble U.S. foreign policy, the doctor takes it one step further. He explains that, “The founders warned against interfering in the affairs of other nations. Former President Bush involved himself in an illegitimate war in Iraq as it was not declared by Congress. He should have been impeached for his usurpation of power that has cost the lives of thousands of Americans.”

Dr. Toth’s stance on foreign policy, as well as, his positions on the Bush administration itself might be appealing enough to generate some support from across the isle. It does amount to more “change” than any Democrat has decided to entertain regarding this topic.

The doctor told the Contra Costa Times that the war on terror means nothing more than “endless war abroad and a national police force at home.”

Dr. Toth spoke in length about the U.N., telling Halfway to Concord that, “Since our involvement with the United Nations we have been involved in countless wars and conflicts. We must follow the wise recommendations of our founders and respect all nations and make no bonds or entangling alliances with any of them.”

Dr. Toth says he will support and defend the U.S. Constitution. When asked about gun-rights, Dr. Toth told us that the 2nd Amendment should be supported with equal vigor as all the others.

While discussing illegal immigration, it was clear that Dr. Toth believes in a strong unified culture. He says, “it is lawful, just, and an obligation that those representing the law (Congress) see to it that those, not respecting our laws (illegal immigrants) be returned to their respective nations.”

Illegal Immigration
Dr. Toth is no fan of amnesty, and wouldn’t support it. Talk about comprehensive immigration reform and the doctor won’t get weak in the knees like a John McCain or a Lindsey Graham.

In fact, Toth says, “if elected I shall draft legislation for a moratorium on all immigration until the current legal immigrants can assimilate to our American culture, and until the border patrol, ICE, and other immigration enforcement organizations can be equipped with sufficient resources to effectively combat illegal immigration.”

Although the CRP has decided to endorse another candidate, the conservative doctor is not affected by that one bit and is confident that voters will make their selection after taking a good look at all of the candidates in the race, not based on the marching orders issued by a few insiders within the Party leadership.

Doctor Toth hopes to have your vote on September 1st.

I attended The Mark DeSaulnier for Congress Open House on  07/12/2009 Walnut Creek today at the new campaign headquarters. And Holy Cow, what an event. What a fantastic location in terms of visibility 2014 North Main street in walnut Creek.

There must have been 300 people piled into this campaign HQ. A packed house by any standard. I had a nice conversation with the Mayor of Danville and of course it was great to see Mark DeSaulnier. Always a regular guy and master of the moment. Mark was obviously enjoying talking to everyone in the room. It was a great mix of electorate from every demographic. There was food a plenty and a plethora of folks representing the heart of the Contra Costa electorate all lending their support to the State Senator who now aspires to be the Congressmen from Congressional District 10.

In my career in politics I don’t think I have seen an organization like this in what is essentially a primary. While I was talking to the folks downstairs, upstairs their was a class training volunteers in walking door to door and making phone calls and then doing it. I met many young volunteers talking about the challenge of the campaign from now to election day on September 1st and how they can get the ball over the goal line and get DeSaulnier elected to the House of Representatives.

I have to say everything is in place for victory. DeSaulnier is a tireless campaigner. This is his third major campaign in three years. Nobody is better positioned to take this job. He on the correct side of every issues Democrats care about and is the perfect person in terms of temperament skill and ability to replace Ellen Tauscher in Washington D. C.
