2) Further discussion calls on members to take action to correct the allegations which no one is denying; to avoid legal and financial penalty, as well as to fulfill legal and fiduciary obligations as sworn office holder of the State of California.

GOP spanks Bechnel on PLA vote

The Coalition for Fair Employment, a trade group that supports NO votes for Project Labor Agreements around the County has taken Brentwood City Councilman Chris Bechnel to task for voting for a PLA for Brentwood’s $75M Civic Center, that would insure union-only workers get jobs on the project.

In a recent e-mail the business group says, “Despite the fact that this 5 person city council had 4 Republicans on it, including Bechnel, the unions were still able to get a PLA through. Bechnel, due to the odious manner with which he supported the PLA, including having to lie to justify his actions, is now about to learn just how costly this vote was.”

The message floating around mailboxes of activists cites an effort for Bechnel to be removed as an alternate to the Contra Costa Republican Central Committee. In an e-mail allegedly from Chuck Handwork to the CCRP, Handwork recommends Bechnel’s replacement on the central committee.:

That’ll show Bechnel.

Now; whether Greg Poulos, the ersatz chair of the GOP County Central Committee and antiquarian—having lost his election to the body, yet was illegally named Chair and proxy for oft-absent brow beater, Tom Del Beccaro—actually has the right or cajones to follow Handwork’s request without first consulting with Mr Big, is another matter. Poulos won’t appoint a replacement to the Central Committee unless vetted by Del Beccaro first, what with people clamoring for open elections and budget transparency trying to take over the party apparatus.

Such as it is.

The Little Rascals that run the GOP in Contra Costa County have made a fetish of secrecy and financial subterfuge. And they’ve strong-armed hapless pols to play along. Financial transparency was voted down 24-7.

Here’s the Treasurer’s report from the February 19 meeting:

Darcy Linn: “Everything’s fine!”
Members: Wild Applause

Yet the State and Federal financial reports show negative balances and unpaid bills. How does $1,580 a month to the Executive Director equal $48,000 per year salary? If the new rent is less than your Netflix account why does the report show $1,106 paid in rent? And what does it mean that the only financial contributor to the GOP in January was a producer of lube from Alameda County?

buckwheat_otay_littlerascals1Financial improprieties are serious issues. Yet Christian Amsberry, Nick Gerber, Elizabeth Hansen, Roger Petersen, and Abram Wilson(!)—who serve as ex-officio members of the Contra Costa GOP due to having run for elective office—all voted to maintain secrecy and continue to enable Alfalfa Del Beccaro and Darla Linn to cook the books as Greg “Spanky” Poulos puts on a magic show. Dean “Froggy” Andal was not in attendance.

Using the contact information of the roster of the Contra Costa Central Committee below, demand that the County GOP vote for accepted accounting practices and provide and audit and full financial statements in writing for all elected members.

County GOP closing office

In what appears to be a yearly migration, the Contra Costa County GOP will again close its office in Walnut Creek say sources. This amid a dismal bank account balance and outstanding bills yet to pay.

The irony is poignant as Tom Del Beccaro was tabbed last year by the State Republican Party to raise the big bucks for the party. Del Beccaro is the former County Chairperson who recently threw aside Central Committee bylaws to keep his broken hearts club together in power.

As Deep Throat whispered, “Follow the money.”

Federal Acct $446.26
State Acct $991.03
– Total ending balance for the Contra Costa Republican Party as of 12/31/08 = $1,437.29

Unfortunately, following the money is tough to do when the Central Committee have hardly ever seen any real financials. Some of the more gullible members were told it was “secret,” when in fact it’s available online. These same thralls of Del Beccaro believed and did what they were told, “everything was fine and anyone who asks for financials are troublemakers trying to take over the party.”

How bad a shape is the California Republican Party in?

It’s so bad that Del Beccaro can run unopposed for State Republican vice-chair. Hopefully the screeching sound you hear from Del Beccaro supporters is the sound of the California GOP scraping against failure as it grinds to a complete halt.

Hopefully we’ve hit bottom.
